Analysis

Gujarat Titans are the defending champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) title. Hailing from the 2019 victorious team, Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, David Miller, and Rashid Khan make up a bunch of other retained players. Additionally, they have signed Kane Williamson who was once a captain for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

They fall behind in terms of batting as compared with Miller and Gill. As well as being a proven batsman, Williamson can stabilize their opening order. Pandya is an all-rounder who has great potential with both bat and ball.

The best pace bowler in the world is Shami who takes charge of their bowling attack. Another fine leg-spinner on the planet is Khan while still being able to hold up his bat in a game. In this IPL edition, expect Little and Sai Kishore to excel as they are young bowlers.

GT squad consists of experienced and young members which makes it well well-balanced team for the 2023 IPL season.

Analysis:

In the forthcoming mini-auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has the second-highest purse and a strong team despite having made numerous releases. They have a lineup with Mayank Agarwal, Aiden Markram, and Rahul Tripathi among the proven performers and middle-order power is offered by Glenn Phillips. The pace attack is led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar as well as Umran Malik while spin versatility comes through Washington Sundar.

However, there are certain areas where SRH needs reinforcements. An opener that can be relied upon to support Agarwal is required given that Harry Brook has been released. Furthermore, it seems imperative to strengthen their spin department with an overseas quality player alongside Sundar. Due to this huge amount in their coffers and a solid core group of players, SRH could prepare themselves for some smart buys which would enable them to challenge for title contention next time around.

Analysis

Shreyas Iyer, Andre Russell, and Sunil Narine are the strong core players for the Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR). There are also some promising youngsters like Rinku Singh and Venkatesh Iyer.

The KKR has a balanced batting line-up with power hitters or accumulators mix. The top-order batsman is Iyer who’s solid while one of the most destructive batsmen in the world is Russell. Roy is an established opener while Gurbaz is a talented young batsman. Rana & Singh can also score runs in the middle order.

One of the best spinners globally leads the bowling attack for Narine. Another high-quality spinner is Varun Chakaravarthy as Harshit Rana arises as a young fast bowler. Additionally, Arora and Sharma can bowl at death overs.

In 2023, KKR has a good chance to make playoffs but they will need to fill gaps left by those players whom they have released such as Shakib Al Hasan and Lockie Ferguson. Hence they also should be careful not to overspend at auction times.

Analysis

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are one of the most successful teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL), having won the title four times. They retained a core of players from their 2023 squad, including captain MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Ravindra Jadeja. They also signed Ajinkya Rahane as an overseas opener who is a former India captain.

CSK have a strong batting line-up with Conway and Gaikwad as their opener pair. At the top of the order, Rahane can provide stability whereas Dhoni remains a reliable finisher. Jadeja is an all-rounder that’s versatile with both bat and ball.

Chahar leads their bowling attack being one of IPL’s finest bowlers. Theekshana is another spinner but a young talent; Pathirana being death over specialist resembles a mystery spinner in this format while Santner and Ali experienced spinners help control middle overs.

In 2023 CSK has a good chance to make it into playoffs however they will have to fill gaps left by released players like Ambati Rayudu and Ben Stokes but then again not overspend at auctions.

7.Shahrukh Khan

Slots available:

  • Indian players: 8
  • Overseas players: 2

Analysis

Punjab Kings (PBKS) have the potential but they have lately been failing to perform as expected. They retained some players from their 2023 squad like Shikhar Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow, and Kagiso Rabada. Shah Rukh Khan was also signed as an overseas player who is a young all-rounder with a lot of promise.

The opening pair is strong with Dhawan and Bairstow in PBKS’s batting line-up. Livingstone is a destructive middle-order batsman while Curran can bat and bowl.

Rabada leads this bowling attack and is one of the best bowlers in the IPL. Ellis is another promising young fast bowler whereas Chahar is a quality spinner. Brar bowls well during middle overs and he’s also an all-rounder.

There are chances that PBKS could make it to playoffs in 2023. Nevertheless, they will need to fill up for those players they released such as Shahrukh Khan and Raj Angad Bawa. The team should also be careful not to spend too much money during auctioning.

8.Rilee Rossouw
9.Ripal Patel
10.Rovman Powell
11.Sarfaraz Khan

Slots available:

  • Indian players: 9
  • Overseas players: 4

Analysis

The Delhi Capitals (DC) are a well-balanced team of young and experienced players. They have retained some key members from their 2023 squad namely captain Rishabh Pant, opening batsman Prithvi Shaw, and all-rounder Axar Patel. They also included David Warner as their overseas player.

DC’s batting line-up has got power at the top with Warner and Shaw opening the innings. Marsh is an all-rounder who can bat anywhere in the order as well as bowl if needed. Lalit Yadav is a young middle-order batsman with some good potential bowling skills, while Pant plays as a finisher.

Nortje leads an attack that includes numerous other IPL fast bowlers who are among the best performers in this format of the game. Ngidi is another fast-paced bowler while Kuldeep is a spinner par excellence. Ishant Sharma bowls early overs with great control.

In 2023, DC has good odds of making it into playoffs but they must fill gaps left by released players including Sarfaraz Khan and Rovman Powell. However, they need to be cautious about how much they spend on buying players in auctions too.

8.Ramandeep Singh
9.Roley Meredith
10.Sandeep Warrier
11.Tristan Stubbs

Slots available:

  • Indian players: 7
  • Overseas players: 4

Analysis:

RCB’s core remains intact, despite Kohli’s nonattendance. Ishan Kishan and Dewald Brevis open the batting for Suryakumar Yadav at four positions and a more power-hitting lineup of Tim David and Cameron Green is expected to keep this side explosive. A decent bowling attack is provided by Jasprit Bumrah, Kumar Kartikeya Singh, and Shams Mulani, but they do not have a frontline pace option after Archer and Richardson were released. With a smaller purse, they need to make intelligent purchases to plug important gaps like finding a good death bowler or dependable middle-order batsman in particular.

8) Mumbai Indians (MI)

Purse amount available: Rs 17.75 crore

Retained players:

No.Player Name
1.Akash Madhwal

10.Nehal Wadhera
11.Piyush Chawla
12.Rohit Sharma
13.Romario Shepherd (T)
14.Shams Mulani

16.Tim David
17.Vishnu Vinod

3.Hrithik Shokeen
4.Jhye Richardson
5.Jofra Archer
6.Mohd. Arshad Khan
7.Raghav Goyal
8.Ramandeep Singh
9.Roley Meredith
10.Sandeep Warrier
11.Tristan Stubbs

Slots available:

  • Indian players: 8
  • Overseas players: 2

Analysis:

Less money leaves MI with more problems. They have Rohit Sharma and Surya Kumar Yadav as their key players; however, they need another opener and someone for the middle order apart from them. Bowlers should be aware that without Jasprit Bumrah, Behrendorff, or Shams Mulani there won’t be any experience in that attack. They need some game-changing players in this small pool of money to overcome these flaws and have a balanced team.

In conclusion, RCB and MI both have significant gaps to fill; however, RCB’s higher budget gives them an edge over MI. Their success in the upcoming season will mainly depend on how well they perform at the mini-auction.

9) Rajasthan Royals (RR)

Purse amount available: Rs 14.5 crore

Retained players:

No.Player Name
1.Adam Zampa
2.Avesh Khan (T)

3.Jason Holder
4.Joe Root
5.K.C Cariappa
6.K.M. Asif
7.Kuldip Yadav
8.Murugan Ashwin
9.Obed McCoy

Slots available:

  • Indian players: 8
  • Overseas players: 3

Analysis:

The Rajasthan Royals (RR) are defending champions in the IPL, with many players remaining from the squad of 2023. Jos Buttler is a very good cricketer, and he will be supported by Shimron Hetmyer and Sanju Samson. Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal are other top bowlers who lead the bowling attack.

On the other hand, there are gaps in RR that need to be filled, especially in the middle order. Also, they have to find someone else for Obed McCoy, who was an important figure during their victorious run. Their limited budget may affect their ability to recruit quality players across all areas, but they should look out for some smart buys that can keep them competitive next season.
